The estate is a 14 room residence. Each room has its own on suite bathroom and private balcony with ocean or mountain views. OUR WEEKLY ADVENTURES

Taking full advantage of the many opportunities Nueva Vida has due to its exotic location in Costa Rica we provide all our clients with a weekly “adventure”.

This adventure is usually a one day off premises group excursion. In most cases our entire staff also participates in these adventures as they are meant to be fun and therapeutic.

Among the many adventures are horseback riding on the beach and in the mountains, river rafting and river tubeing, kayaking in rivers and on the ocean, canopy rides, hiking to a volcano, walks in the rainforest, deep sea fishing, four wheeling, snorkeling and barbecues on deserted beaches.

Each activity is meant to provide a new and challenging experience. As these are group activities and require interaction with others they promote a person’s self-esteem and social skills.

It also assures us that every client is fully detoxed and ready to start the 30 or 60 day program at our Oceanside Estate.
This program is directed and supervised by Dr. Luis Sancho and his team of three psychiatrists who have been doing this for ten years.

The hospital, founded in 1960, is a beautiful modern facility with private rooms and one it the best hospitals in Costa Rica. It is fully accredited by the Joint Commission International, has state of the art equipment along with intensive and emergency care units.

Each patient is assigned a fulltime (24/7) nurse during their entire detox stay.

FULL MEDICAL CHECKUP

In many cases a client can take advantage of their in hospital stay and go through our complete “physical checkup” that includes an in depth and complete assessment of the client’s medical and physical condition.

The checkup includes a colonoscopy, gastroscopy, an abdominal and major organs ultra sound, full blood profile, chest x- rays, an EKG and stress test along with a complete exam and evaluation by an internist. (This test cost less than $1,500 – in the USA it would cost over $5,000)

At the same time we also provide a free dental and vision exam.

A SOUND MIND REQUIRES A SOUND BODY

Our philosophy is that a sound mind needs a sound body. Getting physically fit and healthy is a critical component of any successful rehab. The cost saving provide by our rehab in Costa Rica will allow many clients access to proper medical care also.

Our Co – Management Program starts with an initial evaluation of the client by the therapist at home prior to the clients leaving for rehab at Nueva Vida. This evaluation will be shared with our staff and aid in developing a specific program for the client.

Then once or twice a week during the client’s entire stay at Nueva Vida the stateside therapist will communicate with the client via phone or Skype to keep abreast and be fully informed of the clients experience and progress at Nueva Vida. This may also include conferences with the rehab staff at Nueva Vida.
Once the client returns home the stateside therapist will be available to provide follow up care and continued therapy for the client.

Our program will pay the USA therapist a co-management fee (approx. $2,000) if the therapist chooses to be a part of this program.

WORKING WITH DETOX CENTERS AND INTERVENTIONISTS IN THE USA

We also work directly with detox centers and interventionist in the United States whereby they can refer clients to us. In many cases we also work with them in a co – management arrangement. We can also provide assistance with the intervention process.

IN HOSPITAL MEDICAL DETOX PROGRAM

For the safety and additional comfort of all our clients we provide in hospital detox for all our clients prior to their attending Nueva Vida. This program is directed and supervised by Dr. Luis Sancho and his team of three psychiatrists that have been doing this for ten years.
The hospital, founded in 1960 is fully accredited by the Joint Commission International and has state of the art equipment along with intensive and emergency care.
Dr. Sancho also treats depression using TMS.

WE FINANCE THE REHAB AND TRAVEL EXPENSES

The cost of our program is less than 1/3 of what a similar program would cost in the United States. To make our program accessible to everyone we also offer financing. Our clients can finance their stay with no money down for up to five years. This means a monthly payment of $250 with no money down. Contact us for more information on this option.

FULL PHYSICAL / MEDICAL CHECK UP

We recommend all our patients spend two days at our medical center in San Jose and take a full two day physical that includes a Colonoscopy, Gastroscopy, full blood, chest x rays, abdomen ultra sound including the Pancreas, Kidneys, Liver, Bladder, Echo Stress test – full exam of the heart and arteries and a complete exam by a physician. A CAT scan and MRI are also available.

This complete exam costs between $1,500 and $2,000 (this is less than ¼ of the typical cost in the USA) and will give a person a complete profile of their overall health and may detect any abnormalities in the body.

FREE DENTAL AND EYE EXAM

We provide all our patients with a complete dental and eye exam along with a full evaluation at no charge with one of Costa Rica’s best dental clinics. Dental work in Costa Rica is among the best in the World and costs 1/4 of what it costs in the United States.

OUR STRUCTURED AND RIGOROUS PROGRAM

Nueva Vida Health and Wellness Retreat starts its program by providing their client’s a professional in hospital detox, supervised by Dr. Luis Sancho and his team of highly experienced psychiatrists. This assures us that every client is fully detoxed and ready to start the 30 or 60 day program at our Oceanside Estate.

Our rehabilitation program is comprehensive and rigorous and combines various modalities. We include some of the Hazelden 12 Step, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), daily individual and group therapy sessions along with acupuncture, meditation, exercise and nutrition.

Our daily exercise program along with carefully structured nutrition focuses on improving overall general health and wellness. We have an experienced team of exercise specialists and a resident acupuncturist who specialized in treating addictions. Our own nutritionist and chef work together to create outstanding meals that aid in the recovery process.

EXTRA ACTIVITIES

Given our exotic location in Costa Rica we have all kinds of activates that include exercise and meditation on the beach, horseback riding on the beach and in the mountains, kayaking in the ocean and in rivers, rafting, fishing, zip lining, diving and hiking up volcanoes and four wheeling through tropical rainforests. Each activity is meant to foster personal growth.
Despite the fact that we have made our program fun and exciting it is not a vacation. We are a serious substance abuse rehab center and will only take clients that are serious about recovering from addictions and that are willing to commit to the considerable effort it takes.

OUR DAILY SCHEDULE

Our daily routine is rigorous and designed to bring about a complete change in the person. Nueva Vida’s program combines daily mediation, exercise and proper nutrition along with individual and group therapy in a completely new environment to foster this change. Our program goes beyond just rehab – it is meant to create a complete transformation in the person – mental, physical and spiritual.

A typical day at Nueva Vida will include the following:

1 – GUIDED MEDITATION

6:30 to 6:55 No Talking – Silent Time is conducted every morning upon wake up.

2 -YOGA

7:00 -7:15   5 Tibetan Rites – Practice starts with 3 Repetitions of 5 exercises each day for a week.

Each week – for eight weeks – the practitioner adds 2 repetitions of each exercise every week until they reach 21 repetitions of five exercises every day.

3 – MORNING EXERCISE

We start with 20 minutes of standing postures. We’ll start with 10-15 minutes and work up to 24 minutes (8 postures x 3 Minutes)

Combined these two exercise groups offer comprehensive energy balancing patterning and overall body tone. While they look simple and uncomplicated, the compilation of exercises constitutes a very sophisticated mind/body/energy balancing workout.

4 – PM GROUP ACUPUNCTURE

Every afternoon we have 45 minute group acupuncture session. Acupuncture has proven significantly reduce relapse rates after leaving rehab.

5 – AM/PM GROUP REVIEW

This is a mandatory review of material covered the previous day using specialized “clearing techniques” on audio. We will reinforce each day with an A.M. and P.M. review as a group listening to the CD’s. This helps the client to naturalize the content and learning process. This is a 15 -20 minute process twice a day and is a very important part of this program.

6 – AM AND PM SESSIONS WITH RESIDENT PSYCHOLOGIST

The morning and afternoon sessions will be conducted by our resident psychologists.
In these sessions we will work with clients, individually and in groups. Our psychologist is going to work the psychological part of the addiction process. These sessions include the implementation of programs such as the 12 Steps and include Reactive Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

7- WEEKLY PSYCHIATRIC EVALUATIONS

Once a week one of our team of Psychiatrists will visit the Retreat and conduct one on one evaluations of each client, discuss each client’s progress with our resident team and make modifications or changes to the client’s care.

8 – NUTRITION

Our resident nutritionist will also conduct a nutritional assessment of each of client upon their arrival at the retreat and develop a nutritional program individual tailored to each client’s specific needs and goals.
